Mateřská škola Sluníčko Sendražice, Kolin, Czech Republic
Contact person is: Ivana Březinová Headmistress of the school.
Mateřská škola Sluníčko Sendražice is located in a suburb of Kolin. Former it was an independent village but later
it got connected to the town of Kolin. That brought a lot of comfort considering the local transport (city bus every 30 min), and other town advantages.
The kindergarden is rather small of size. The max. capacity is 50 children from 3 to 6 years old. There are two classes ( the little ones - 3-4 y. o.), and the older (5 - 6 y. o.) Our children come mostly from families of workers, with basic education, commuting to work everyday. The two most problematic issues nowadays are the shortage of staff, and vacancy for new children. This year, in January 2012 we already know that at least 7 children of the oldest class will not leave for a Primary school from September 2012. Their parents applied for postponing the Primary school start; and that means less capacity for the newcomers. Moreover our school curriculum cannot satisfactorily educate pupils 7 years of age. They are likely to repeat similar activities.
Concerning the staff shortage - at the moment we have 3 qualified teachers (headmistress included), from February 2012 there will be 4 teachers. That means
that 1 teacher leads a group of 25 children at one moment which is in limit but does not allow any extra activities we would like to manage.

The kindergarden named "Sv. Sv. Kiril i Metodij" is in a small town, Dve Mogili, Bulgaria. This town has a population of about five thousand and the people encounter a great deal of economic difficulties. That's why many of them choose to work abroad and leave their children to the other members of their families. That gives birth to a crisis in the behavior and the state of mind of the 3 to 7 years old.

There are no certain data for pupils coming from disadvantaged social-economical background, and also no data for children with
special needs. Most of the pupils have roma parents, but they themselves are not recorded as roma persons. The kindergarten lays emphasis on integrating these children into educational process and also helping their social inclusion.

Our kindergarden is the only one in a our village. We are rather small with max. 36 children. There are two classes with four teachers. We serve also the nearby villages without kindergardens. Our village has got a good infrastructure, there is also a primary school but on the other hand this does not push the locals to travel much to other places. Also there is the financial question. Our region is small, with a high unemployment, there is a low possibility to get additional funds from a commercial sponzors. As for the low capacity, and therefore the 36
children we use most of our budget for basic expenditures, there are problems with getting a modern, new equipment for activities.
